Harbor seals belong to the seal family and are found in the northern hemisphere in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. They are found preferably on coasts with dry sandbanks, but also on sheltered rocky coasts. Seals are very good swimmers, being able to dive up to 200 m deep and for 30 minutes. While young seals feed mainly on crustaceans and molluscs, adult conspecifics only eat fish. Although they often group together on sandbanks, common seals are solitary animals and do not like being touched by others of their own species.
